#TeamWISHH support ‘Space to Grow’ appeal at Hull Run for All
Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust doctors, nurses, and other NHS staff are donning their trainers to support the WISHH Charity this coming Sunday, as they take part in the Hull 10k and Half Marathon on the 11th June.
The incredible team of forty runners features hospital staff working in departments such as Accident and Emergency, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Theatres, Endoscopy, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Ear Nose and Throat, Urology, Oncology, Histopathology, Paediatrics, Estates, and Administration. The runners from across Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital have all been in training ahead of the events.
We are also joined by friends of the WISHH Charity, including local business supporters Prestige Recruitment, Helix and Siemens Gamesa, who have all come on board to help make a difference.
A number of runners have chosen to back our new ‘Space to Grow Appeal’, to support the Neonatal intensive Care Unit (NICU), as we aim to raise £100,000 to enhance facilities. Funds raised will enable us to create a sensory room, family ‘Haven’, siblings play area and a specialist learning facility within the Unit.
Dr Jane Lawson is running the Half Marathon and said, “As a member of staff in the Neonatal Unit I know how important the ‘Space to Grow’ appeal is. Our wonderful families will benefit so much from these new facilities”.
Harley Smith said, “My wife and I recently had our first baby who spent two weeks in NICU, followed by six weeks of care from the NICU outreach team. The standard of care Hugo received was remarkable and this is our way to give a little back.”
Michael Pearl, said “As a student nurse who is currently on placement at NICU, a few months ago my nephew Albi was born unexpectedly and spent time on the Unit. I have seen the amazing work that happens there and would like to help support this by taking part in the Hull 10k.”
Anna and James Bell are taking part in both the Hull Half Marathon and North Yorkshire Half Marathon. Anna said, “We welcomed our son Arthur into the world at just 30 weeks. Following his shock birth, we spent 7 weeks in NICU and the care received was amazing. We want to help support NICU with this new appeal.”
Runners are also supporting support wards and departments across Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital, including Neurology to support Motor Neurone service, and Queen’s Centre for Oncology and Haematology.
