WISHH National Elf Service Appeal!
Our community has come together to make a real difference to both young and older patients cared for across Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital this Christmas, through the WISHH Charity’s National Elf Service Appeal.
Humberside Fire and Rescue Service’s training department and their new recruits have spent the past month rallying members of the community to provide gifts and funds for the appeal. Their efforts culminated in a fantastic gift delivery across the Children’s and Medical Elderly Wards at Hull Royal Infirmary and the Teenage and Young Adult Cancer Unit at Castle Hill Hospital. From slippers and toiletries for older patients to toys, books, pamper items and games for children and young people, the recruits also delivered the gifts to ward areas for distribution on Christmas day. In addition, the team donated £470 to the WISHH Baby Loss Appeal from additional funds raised.
Fundraiser, Alec Smith began his challenge in September and successfully completed the Humber Half Marathon, the Yorkshire Marathon and the Yorkshire Three Peaks to provide gifts for children’s areas across Hull Royal Infirmary.
Additional generous donations have come from staff and members of David Lloyd Hull, 30 beautifully prepared gift bags from the Teleflex staff, and toys contributed by customers of The National Pub, Tesco St Stephens, Tesco Market Weighton, Howden’s Joinery and Hull FC. Thank you all!
Championing the hospital staff working on Christmas day, dedicated fundraiser Lindsey Levesley lovingly prepared 20 festive bags for teams across Hull Royal Infirmary.
Lisa Whitton, WISHH Charity Manager said, “I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank everyone who has supported WISHH throughout the year, helping us make a real difference to patients cared for at Hull Hospitals. The response to our WISHH National Elf Service Appeal has received has been incredibly heartwarming, with so much thought put into gifts for patients of all ages. It’s wonderful to help bring the magic of Christmas to patients in hospital over the festive season. Especially older patients who may not have family nearby visit them, these efforts mean so much.
“I would also like to thank the businesses and individuals who have supported our Christmas WISHHes stars, featured in the memorial garden at Hull Royal Infirmary, raising vital funds for the WISHH Baby Loss Appeal. The stars, plus additional donations have given a boost to this appeal over Christmas. Thank you all for your continued generosity.”
