We asked past participants to tell us what they enjoyed about the day and what they would say to anybody thinking of signing up to this year’s Yorkshire Three Peak challenge:

Niluk Fernando, a Planning and Reporting Accountant at the Trust told us after the walk: “It was breath-taking! The aches and pains go away once you see those views. I would do it again!” He went on to say: “You know there is a team of friendly people to support you from start to end from organising the fundraising pages to providing specialist support on the day of the walk if things don’t go to plan.”

Debbi Devlin, from Nuclear Medicine said, “Yorkshire Three Peaks for WISHH sounded a big challenge so I joined up with my husband. WISHH team up with Overlimits to do practice walks, so I did all three. Phil and his crew are brilliant and their hints and tips and chats have helped enormously. Preparation is key for this challenge as it is quite gruelling (spectacular but gruelling!) The support from Phil and his team before and during the walk is superb, such a brilliant bunch. We had a fantastic time, a brilliant challenge, plus we’ve rekindled our love of walking in the wonderful British countryside. I would encourage others to get involved.”

When asked about his favourite part of the day, Simon Stapley, a Consultant working in Elderly Medicine answered: “The best part of the day was the view from the final peak. Seeing the sun reflecting off of the water at Morecombe bay was magical and made that final climb really worth the effort.” Simon and fellow HUTH Harriers member Monicah Oakley ran the majority of the route, starting the day three hours after the walkers set off.

Jane and Anne from the Woodland Children’s Ward said, “It was great to be part of a team and take part in a personal challenge and raise funds for WISHH as most of us have benefitted from the Charity.  It feels good to give something back. The support from Phil and the team at Overlimits was absolutely top notch. They looked after everyone brilliantly, nothing was too much trouble for them. Our advice to anyone wanting to take part in the challenge would be to train, train, train, step climbing is a must. – Don’t underestimate those 3 Peaks!

Ellie Cockerill, a Clinical Lead Physiotherapist and Lecturer in Physiotherapy, wanted to share her advice for this year’s walkers: “Make sure you do it in a group! The others were amazing and I genuinely don’t think I’d have made it round on my own.” Ellie added: “We wanted to support WISHH as thanks for all the support they provide us. The walk was really hard but so rewarding! A great challenge to do for a great charity.”
