Louise and Jackson Support Neuro-Oncology Patients
A generous donation from Louise and her son, Jackson who took part in ‘Laps for Daddy’, has enabled WISHH to provide cutting-edge technology and equipment for the Neuro-Oncology team, at Hull Royal Infirmary. Funds donated in memory of husband and father Lee, inspired by the care he received from the neuro-oncology team, has resulted in the purchase of two iPads and other specialist physiotherapy equipment.
The donation has been instrumental in enhancing the resources available to the team working with brain tumour patients undergoing awake brain surgery. The iPad Pros, equipped with a specialist programme for brain mapping, are now being used to support intra-operative brain mapping during surgery. These advanced programmes allow the clinical neuropsychology and physiotherapy teams to work closely with the surgical team to remove as much of the tumour as safely possible, ensuring critical areas of the brain that control speech, movement, and other essential functions are protected during the operation.
Dr. Jaswinder Moorhouse, Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist, said: “We’ve seen a significant increase in awake surgeries over the past few years, from 12 cases in 2021-2022, and expect to undertake around 28 surgeries over this calendar year. Louise and Jackson’s generous donation will have a huge impact on our practice and will help us to continue improving the service we offer to patients for many years to come. We are so grateful for their generosity, which directly supports our work to enhance outcomes for brain tumour patients.”
